5th Gala Sida Barcelona
The Gala Sida Barcelona (AIDS Gala) is a fundraising event for research projects promoted by the Fight AIDS Foundation. Already in its fifth year, the Gala returns to the Oval Hall at MNAC with Miguel Bosé as its host and Genoveva Casanova as the Gala Ambassador. Renowned Flamenco dancer Sara Baras, together with the members of her company, will give an exclusive charity performance covering the most representative forms of this Spanish tradition.
In addition, this year the Fight AIDS Foundation will hold the first Barcelona AIDS Awards to recognize the work of one individual (Bruce Walker, M.D. Director of the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard; Professor at University of Harvard) and one organization (”la Caixa” Foundation). During the Gala, the winners will be presented with an award designed by Jaume Plensa, one of Spain’s most internationally acclaimed artists. The sculptor has created the pieces especially for the Foundation on a charity basis.
A large number of important figures in business and society will attend the Gala. Notable among them is James Costos, the American Ambassador to Spain, who has been personally and very actively involved in the cause and will make his first appearance at the event.
Numerous businesses, both from Spain and abroad, will be present. Many continue to support the fight year after year, while others are newcomers. Google United States belongs to the latter group. The company has confirmed that Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt will be present at the event. The MAC Aids Fund, Telefónica, Volkswagen and Repsol will again be the Gala’s main sponsors. The Board of Trustees for Aid for Aids Foundation of New York and important companies in Mexico, Venezuela and other countries will also offer their support.
